Do you need a crown because of extensive decay, tooth fracture or other problems which compromise oral health, function or aesthetics? You’d like a lifelike porcelain restoration but just don’t have the time for multiple dental appointments. Is there a way to get that tooth restored without all the hassle? Dr. Amaro or Dr. Patel, your dentist in Scarborough, has the answer. It’s the CEREC crown, designed, fabricated and placed during just one appointment at White Willow Family & Cosmetic Dentistry. You’ll be very pleased with the results and with how little time it took to improve your smile.
What Does CEREC Mean?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Simply put, the CEREC system creates porcelain crowns quickly right in your dentist’s treatment room. There are no temporary crowns, messy oral impressions or length wait times while your crown is created at an outside dental lab. Instead, Dr. Amaro or Dr. Patel accomplishes the entire restorative treatment in just about an hour, and you can watch your crown being fabricated!
How Does CEREC Technology Work?
When you come to White Willow Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, your dentist will examine your tooth, take some digital x-rays and other three-dimensional imaging if needed. Teeth with extensive decay, multiple fillings, serious cosmetic imperfections or oral trauma often qualify for same-day crowns in Scarborough. Dental crowns cover and protect and beautify remaining healthy tooth structure.
If a crown is needed, your dentist will take digital oral impressions and design a crown using CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) software. In addition, she will remove the damaged portions of your tooth so it’s ready to accept the restoration.
The CEREC milling machine takes the dentist’s instructions and uses them to custom-make your crown. The apparatus utilizes a solid block of dental grade porcelain to mill a lifelike restoration in about 15 to 20 minutes. Patients are amazed by how quick the process is and with how beautiful their new crowns are.
When the milling procedure is complete, your dentist takes the new crown, adjusts its color and bonds it directly on your prepared tooth. Because CEREC technology is so precise and accurate, the doctor rarely needs to modify how teeth bite together. Basically, the crown is the perfect size and shape right out of the milling apparatus.
Using CEREC technology, dentists now can design and place crown and bridgework tooth replacements and partial crowns (inlays and onlays) quickly and easily, too. And, in the case of inlays and onlays, the days of large, ugly metal fillings are over. Inlays and onlays restore large areas of decay or fracture on the chewing surfaces of teeth such as molars. These procedures are accomplished in one fast and convenient dental appointment.
